What is a Hex Plug?
Hex plug is a pipe fitting with **male thread and a hexagon head**. It is screwed into female threaded ports for blanking or closing pipeline openings. The hex head allows wrench tightening and easy removal.
Important distinction: Hex Plug = male thread (goes into female port); Hex Cap = female thread (covers male nipple). They are not interchangeable.
What thread standards are available?
Available thread types:
– NPT (ASME B1.20.1, tapered thread)
– BSPT / R (EN 10226, tapered thread)
– BSPP / G (ISO 228-1, parallel thread)
Threads are not interchangeable. Please confirm thread standard and size before order.
What stainless steel grades can you supply?
Standard grades:
– 304 / CF8 for water, air and general low-corrosion applications
– 316 / 316L / CF8M for coastal, brine, chemical and chloride-containing media
Duplex, 321 and other special alloys are available upon custom request.
What standards and pressure rating?
Forged bar stock version complies with ASME B16.11, 150LB / 300LB.
Casted version follows ISO4144 / MSS SP-114, Class 150LB (PN16).
Pressure rating varies by material, wall thickness and production type. We will confirm the rating once size and specification are finalized.
Manufacturing process: casting or bar stock machined?
Stock sizes: lost wax investment casting.
High-pressure / high-precision requirement: solid bar CNC machined, higher cost.
Surface finish options?
Standard: pickled matte finish. Optional: bright polish / satin brushed for food, beverage and sanitary pipeline systems.
Can you do laser marking?
Yes. We can mark size, grade, heat number, customer logo or brand on the hex flats.
Packaging for sea shipment?
Male threads are protected by plastic thread caps. Packed into export cartons, then loaded on fumigated wooden pallets with waterproof stretch film to avoid scratch and thread damage.
What is the lead time?
Typically, shipments are dispatched within 7–15 days of receiving the deposit, depending on the order quantity.
How is quality controlled?
Raw material inspection → CNC machining → Thread inspection → Hydrostatic testing → Visual inspection → Final dimensional verification before packaging.
Which Incoterms are available for overseas buyers?
We offer FOB (Free On Board) terms, with the shipment originating from a Chinese port. We will provide a commercial invoice, packing list, and bill of lading for import customs clearance.

Hex Plug
304 stainless steel forged/cast hex head plug—an externally threaded pipe plug available in 150 LB or 3000 LB pressure ratings, with NPT or BSP thread specifications.
Constructed from 304 stainless steel via forging or casting, this component features an external thread and a hexagonal head, allowing for easy installation or removal using a wrench. It is primarily designed to seal internally threaded pipe openings and is suitable for the permanent or temporary plugging of industrial piping systems. The product offers excellent corrosion resistance. Material Test Certificates (MTC) are available upon request.
